A fairy tale
The parcel arrives
outside your door
wrapped in rainbow coloured paper.
For days you stare at it
then put it away in the wardrobe.
Your lover doesn't mention
the parcel
neither do you.
Months later you open it
inside there's paper and more
paper - in the middle a piece
of black cardboard.
It's blank.
You bluetack the cardboard
to the bedroom wall.
You never see the lover again.
Every night you put the cardboard
in the bed next to you and
this is how you sleep now
for ever
and ever
